To achieve the best indoor climate control with PICVs it is important to use the best possible actuators. The faster and more accurate the actuator responds to the control signal, the better the result.
Danfoss offers a wide variety of actuators fitting the AB-QM Pressure-Independent balancing and Control Valve. For more information about NovoCon® digital actuators click here.
These innovative digital gear actuators are designed to be directly connected to Building Management Systems (BMS) using BACnet or Modbus bus-communication. This enables a whole new dimension to HVAC control, offering designers, system integrators and building owners many features and benefits.

To achieve the best control performance with analog control signals, gear actuators should be used. These actuators control the position of the valve opening in a very accurate way.
AME gear actuators are controlled by a 0-10V or 4-20mA signal, while AMV actuators are controlled by a 3-point signal (open/neutral/close).
To achieve maximum control performance, geared actuators for AB-QM are equipped with automatic valve stroke detection.
Thermal actuators provide a cost-efficient control solution for the AB-QM valves. The basic principle of these actuators is based on thermal expansion of a wax element. TWA-Q actuators are controlled by an On/Off signal of a temperature controller, either heating the wax or not. The new TWA-Q is an IP54 actuator with extended stroke, fitting to all AB-QM and AB-QM 4.0 valves from sizes DN10 up to DN32.ABNM A5 actuators are controlled by a 0-10 Volt modulating signal of a temperature controller. The 0-10 V signal allows more accurate control possibilities.
Broad product range
With actuators available for all AB-QM dimensions (DN 10 – 250), for all commonly used control signals (on-off, 0-10V, 4-20 mA, bus communication) and functional principles (thermal, analog gear, digital gear), there is always an AB-QM / Actuator combination that corresponds to the project requirements.
We've asked some of our Global customers about their experience with AB-QM pressure independent balancing & control valves. Watch the video where they explain their benefits and why they have converted from conventional balancing solutions to PICVs.
