Shore power supply makes for clean harbors
When using drive technology in a shore-supply solution, ships can source clean energy from local grids. The ship’s main generators can be switched off completely to prevent unnecessary local NOx and carbon emissions and noise pollution while the vessel is docked.
Danfoss Drives provide inverters and drives for power conversion, which convert the 50Hz shore power to the 60Hz power typically used onboard sea going ships. Grid converters use Active Front End AFE technology with proper software able to create and synchronize the AC-grid (micro grid) to the ship's grid.

In transitioning ferries from diesel to pure electric power, powerful onshore support is essential, in the form of reliable infrastructure for rapid charging capacity and stable grid supply. The systems on board and on shore act as a single system – a sophisticated and competitive system developed by Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) using Danfoss technology.
