BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – Danfoss is pleased to announce that its Director of Industry Affairs, Marie Hammer, has been elected President of the Variable Speed Drives (VSD) Group and a member of the CEMEP Presidential Board. She will succeed Janne Kuivalainen.
This appointment comes as Europe faces a critical inflection point. With motor-driven systems accounting for 70% of all industrial electricity use, they represent one of the most significant levers for boosting competitiveness, securing energy independence, and accelerating decarbonization.
"The gap between potential and action is the greatest challenge we face," said Marie Hammer, the newly appointed President. "The policies are in place, and the business case is proven, yet vast amounts of energy are wasted every single day in Europe's industrial facilities. The technology to solve this isn't on the horizon; it's here now. My mission, together with the members of CEMEP, is to close this implementation gap. We will shift the focus from awareness to action, deploying technologies that cut energy demand and fortify industrial strength.”
Danfoss Drives is committed to pioneering this transformation. We believe that optimizing electric motor systems with technologies like variable frequency drives (VFDs) is no longer an optional upgrade. It is the strategic core of a resilient and competitive European industrial future. We are proud to drive this agenda forward.
A variable speed drive (VSD) or variable frequency drive (VFD) also goes by the names ‘VFD controller’, ‘AFD’, and ‘AC drive’, to name a few. All these terms refer to the same device, which reduces energy consumption.
