Redesigned AB-QM range supports higher flow and greater design flexibility
We have redesigned and expanded our AB-QM range of Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICVs) in sizes DN 125–250. The updated valves offer higher nominal flow rates, a lower differential pressure requirement, and compatibility with smaller actuators. We have also added two new Super High Flow models for large-scale HVAC, data center, and district cooling applications.
For two decades, our AB-QM valves have supported accurate and reliable hydronic control in HVAC systems. This latest update gives HVAC design engineers more flexibility for demanding applications, such as large chilled water systems and district cooling networks.
Higher flow, lower pressure requirement, smaller actuators
The redesigned AB-QM size L valves in sizes DN 125–250 now offer higher nominal flow rates. Across the range, the increase is between 5 and 60%, with an average of 30%.
Key improvements in the redesigned DN 125–250 range include:
- Higher nominal flows: Designers can achieve more flow with the same valve size. This can support a more flexible and cost-efficient system design.
- Lower differential pressure requirement: The required starting pressure is now 40 kPa for standard flow models in sizes DN 125–250 and 60 kPa for High Flow models. This can help reduce pump energy demand and may allow smaller pump specifications.
- Compatibility with smaller actuators: The updated design allows the use of actuators with lower force. For example, the DN 200 and DN 250 valves no longer require the digital NovoCon® XL actuator. The NovoCon® L is now sufficient. This can reduce installation space and initial investment cost.
- Increased robustness: The maximum allowed differential pressure has increased from 600 kPa to 800 kPa for all valves. This provides a greater safety margin in demanding systems.
New Super High Flow models for large-scale systems
To support larger HVAC and district cooling projects, we have expanded the AB-QM family with two new Super High Flow (SHF) models:
- DN 250 SHF: Nominal flow of 600 m³/h and starting pressure of 80 kPa.
- DN 250 SHF+: Nominal flow of 670 m³/h and starting pressure of 100 kPa.
These new models help designers handle very high flow requirements while maintaining stable and accurate control.
Proven pressure-independent control
The performance has been upgraded, but the core AB-QM functionality remains the same. The valves continue to provide high valve authority close to 100% through pressure-independent operation. This helps maintain the design flow across varying system conditions. It also supports stable control, efficient system operation, and a control range of 1:1000 for high accuracy.
