MTZ compressors qualified for use with R438A
R438A qualification supports R22 retrofit applications across selected MTZ models
The listed Danfoss MTZ 1-, 2- and 4-cylinder reciprocating compressor models are now qualified for use with R438A. This provides an alternative refrigerant solution for applications requiring R22 replacement or retrofit support.
The refrigeration industry continues to move away from HCFC refrigerants in line with the Montreal Protocol. R438A offers a practical retrofit option for R22-based applications while supporting the continued use of existing Danfoss MTZ compressor technology in applicable markets and systems.
The MTZ compressor models included in this qualification are approved for use with R438A/175PZ POE oil. R438A is an HFC blend with an ODP of 0 and a GWP of 2264. Compared with R22, the cooling capacity with R438A is typically reduced by approximately 12–20%, depending on compressor size and operating conditions, based on EN12900 conditions at 50 Hz.
Affected compressor models

Timing
Since 16th July 2026, all listed compressor models from serial number 1009693401 are qualified for use with R438A within the defined operating envelope.
Operating maps
Nominal performance data and operating limits are available in the official documentation. Please follow the corresponding operating maps for proper application of R438A.

Important information
R438A is a retrofit refrigerant intended for conversion of existing R22 installations.
When converting a system from R22 to R438A:
- The system manufacturer’s retrofit procedure should be followed.
- Correct oil level and oil return must be verified during commissioning and operation.
- Expansion valve settings may require adjustment.
- System performance and discharge temperatures should be checked after conversion.
- Existing safety controls must be verified and adjusted if required.
- The refrigerant must be charged in the liquid phase due to its temperature glide of approx. 4 °C.

There is no change in the ordering process; compressor codes remain the same.
NTZ 2-cylinder compressors qualified for R454C and R455A
Lower-GWP A2L options extend approved refrigerant use for selected NTZ models
The listed NTZ compressor models are now approved for use with R454A/C and R455A as alternatives to R404A and R507 in applicable systems.
The refrigeration industry continues to reduce the use of ozone-depleting refrigerants, while the transition to lower-GWP synthetic refrigerants is accelerating in response to global climate objectives. Danfoss supports the development and application of these refrigerants to help customers reduce GWP and improve energy efficiency.
The NTZ models listed below are qualified for use with R454C and R455A. These Group 1 refrigerants have a GWP below 150 and are classified as A2L, indicating low flammability. For safe use, please follow European regulations EN 378 and EN 60335, applicable EPA requirements in the United States, and relevant local regulations in other markets.
Affected compressor models

Timing
Since 21 May 2026, all listed compressor models from serial number SE1009657794 are qualified for use with R454C and R455A within the defined operating envelope.
Operating maps
Nominal performance data and operating limits are available in the official documentation. Please follow the corresponding operating maps for proper application of these refrigerants.
Important information
R454A/C and R455A are zeotropic refrigerants with a temperature glide of approximately 6–12 K and must be charged in the liquid phase. A crankcase heater is recommended to prevent oil dilution, protect against refrigerant migration, and maintain the oil temperature 8–10 K above the saturated low-pressure temperature. Testing should confirm a suitable oil temperature under all operating conditions.
A PTC crankcase heater is recommended for all stand-alone compressors and split systems; under extreme conditions, an additional belt-type crankcase heater may be used.
Ordering
There is no change in the ordering process; compressor codes remain the same. Compressor nameplates will specify Refrigerant Group 1 and will include a flammable refrigerant marking to ensure clear identification and compliance with safety standards.

Selected MCX products scheduled for phase-out
Early notice supports service planning, final purchases, and platform migration
As part of ongoing product lifecycle management, Danfoss plans to phase out selected MCX products (not accessories like MMIGRS2 or cables). This communication is intended to provide timely visibility and transition planning in line with standard discontinuance practice used across the electronics industry.
Affected products and principal reason

Additional information
For MCX061V and MCX152V, production continuity is impacted by the obsolescence or unavailability of critical components required for manufacturing.
For the CRA-related products, the phaseout supports transition toward platforms better suited for long-term cybersecurity maintenance, vulnerability handling, and lifecycle support expectations for connected digital products.
The commercial milestones

MCX08M2 is not part of the immediate phase-out wave. Its phase-out is planned for 2029 to allow time for migration, software porting, validation, and an orderly transition.
Customers are encouraged to review current demand, service-spare requirements, and migration planning as early as possible. Where appropriate, successor-platform guidance and transition support will be provided separately.

FIA DN15–40 top-cover Pressure Relief Screw upgraded to G ½
More robust pressure-relief connection improves sealing and serviceability
Danfoss has upgraded the top cover pressure relief screw for all FIA products in the DN15 to DN40 size range to improve product quality and performance. The top-cover pressure-relief screw is being upgraded from a ¼ NPT connection to G ½. The change improves and standardizes sealing performance while ensuring design consistency across the product range.
What this means for you
- The new G ½ version will be phased in as stock of the current ¼ NPT version is depleted.
- Both versions may be supplied during the transition. Customers who require the current ¼ NPT connection should order as early as possible, as remaining NPT stock will not be replenished.
- While there is no difference in the function of the top cover, please note that there is a minor impact on the fit due to the thread change
- To allow easy identification for customers, a marking will be added on Pressure relief screw (indicating G1/2)
- As a result of this recent design modification, the top cover's minimum wall thickness for Carbon Steel FIAs (sizes DN15-DN20) has been upgraded from 10 mm to 15 mm, therefore, the current top cover's bolt change will be changed from M8X25 to M8X30.
- New sales code numbers will be issued for the G ½ version. The existing codes for the ¼ NPT version will be phased out.
- If you prefer to continue using ¼ NPT thread, an adapter connector ½G to ¼ NPT “148H3461: Connection kit for Purge valve” can be purchased separately.
- The 148X code numbers for FIA DN15–DN40 will remain unchanged. Their packaging will be updated to include adapter 148H3461, the connection kit for the purge valve.
Be aware that 148X code numbers involving sizes DN50–DN150 are currently including this adapter inside of packing box. - Current SVL Inspection kits for sizes DN15–DN20 (code 148B6051) as well as DN25–DN40 (code number 148B6052) will be updated by adding Aluminium Gasket as spare part.
