Industry accounts for one-third of global energy consumption and remains one of the most difficult sectors to decarbonize.
Therefore, industry has a unique role to play in the battle against climate change.
Our Danfoss campus in Chennai is India’s first LEED Platinum-rated manufacturing facility. Here, we have reached a yearly CO2 reduction of more than 12,000 tons.
In decarbonizing our operations, we apply the same approach we bring to our customers.
We call it: Reduce, Reuse, Re-source.
Firstly, we reduce energy consumption – by using our own technologies. With variable frequency drives in all HVAC units and oil-free Turbocor compressors, we have reduced energy consumption by 30%, compared to conventional systems.

This campus will play a very iconic role in shaping India’s decarbonization journey.
Besides energy, we also save water. Our Chennai campus is the world's third LEED Zero Water facility. We have implemented an AI-based water management system for real-time monitoring of water distribution, resulting in 50% reduced water consumption.
Chennai has a lot of sun, and over 90% of our manufacturing operations' energy requirements are met through renewables,
The solar module covers an area of 8,500 m2 and contains 56 of our own Danfoss inverters. Solar inverters play a major role in inverting the direct current coming from sunlight into the current that can be fed into the power grid.
And did we mention that we have established India's first privately held Energy Storage System for storing excess energy generated by our onsite solar power?
Our aim is to decarbonize our more than 100 factories - and become carbon-neutral in all global operations by 2030.
Fact: Reduce, Reuse, Re-source
First, we reduce energy waste by scaling energy-efficient technologies and increasing machine productivity. Secondly, we focus on reusing energy through energy recovery and sector coupling. And thirdly, we re-source green energy by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. Only in this sequence can we achieve rapid and cost-efficient decarbonization. |

It helps the individual and it helps the company. But it also helps society at large – because India is still yet to be built.
