NORDBORG, Denmark – Danfoss Power Solutions’ X1P open-circuit piston pump has been named the winner in the fluid power category of the 2025 Leadership in Engineering Achievement Program (LEAP) Awards. Organized by WTWH Media, publisher of Fluid Power World and Design World magazines, the LEAP awards honor innovative engineering achievements in product and component design across 11 categories. The pump was recognized for its industry-leading power density due to its unique swashplate design.
Designed for medium-power mobile machinery applications, the X1P pump delivers unmatched performance in a compact, highly flexible package. Its innovative design improves controllability, durability, and sustainability while reducing noise.
The X1P pump packs more power into a smaller package, reducing its footprint on space-constrained machinery. The X1P features a patent-pending swashplate design with roller-element cradle bearings, which reduces the pump’s length by up to 25 millimeters compared to similar pumps. This makes it the shortest 75-cc 280-bar pump on the market. The unique swashplate design also reduces hysteresis by up to 80%, delivering accurate, precise, and repeatable flow for smooth, reliable machine movement. The control mounting also eliminates common leak points and extends control longevity.
“It is an honor for the X1P team to receive the 2025 LEAP gold award for our all-new X1P axial piston pump,” said Vince Ewald, Global Product Portfolio Manager, Open-Circuit Pumps, Danfoss Power Solutions. “It is no doubt that the innovations incorporated around performance and packaging led to this well-deserved recognition. With a high focus on delivering valuable control improvements while being mindful of sustainability, the team has delivered the market's new generation workhorse, delivering high performance and power density within the industry's shortest 75-cc package size.”
Built on proven components with a goal of maximizing lifetime and optimizing circularity, the X1P pump features a reliable, sustainable design. The pump combines trusted Danfoss controls, shafts, bearings, and rotating kits, backed by millions of hours in the field. It reuses components from the existing portfolio to reduce environmental impact and waste at end of life. With fewer friction points in the design, remanufacturing is more streamlined, resulting in fewer parts that need to be replaced.
Looking ahead, Danfoss Power Solutions is preparing to introduce new advanced control options for the X1P open-circuit pump. These upcoming releases will further expand the pump’s flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving customer needs.
