The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved Danfoss’ science-based targets for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Reaffirming our commitments
As global demand for sustainable solutions rises, so does the demand for our energy-efficient and lower-emitting products and solutions. With our updated near- and long-term targets and in line with our LEAP 2030 strategy, we reaffirm our commitment to decarbonization.
Having our updated targets approved by the SBTi reaffirms that we are aiming high — and that our targets are credible and robust. It demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and our proven ability to drive competitive decarbonization.

SBTi validated targets
The Science Based Targets initiative has approved the following targets:
Near-term targets
- Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by 2035 from a 2024 base year.*
- Reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 66.33% per EUR value added within the same timeframe.
- Reduce scope 3 GHG emissions from use of sold products 66.33% per ton of refrigeration from sold compressors within the same timeframe.
Long-term targets
- Maintain a minimum 90% absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions reduction from 2035 through 2050 from a 2024 base year.
- Reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 97% per EUR value added by 2050 from a 2024 base year.
- Achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050.
* The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from biogenic feedstocks.
While our SBTi-approved target is to achieve a 90% reduction in our own emissions by 2035, we aim to achieve a 90% reduction already by 2030.
To better align our sustainable growth with our climate commitments, we have updated our targets for reducing value chain (scope 3) emissions to be intensity-based. Additionally, we have set a specific target for our compressor business.
With one of our new science-based targets focused on our compressor business, we are making a decisive move to accelerate industrial decarbonization. As the core of energy efficiency in cooling and heating systems, compressors play an important role in reducing global emissions. Danfoss has the industry’s most comprehensive and energy-efficient compressor portfolio, enabling our customers to achieve their climate goals while setting a new standard for sustainability in the compressor industry.

Net-zero by 2050
Raising the bar further, Danfoss has now set a new long-term ambition: to achieve net-zero emissions across our full value chain by 2050. This sends a clear signal that we intend to take the lead in sustainability — driving the transition across industries with our high-performance, energy-efficient solutions.
About the Science Based Targets initiative
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organization that develops standards, tools, and guidance for setting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets. The SBTi partners are CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
