Danfoss to demonstrate the first active isobaric ERD for medium and large SWRO plants at the 2023 Membrane Technology Conference & Exposition

According to the UN, 1.8 billion people are expected to be living in countries or regions with “absolute” water scarcity by 2025. The need for fresh water has therefore never been more urgent. And the ongoing energy crisis underscores the importance of finding sustainable, energy-efficient ways of increasing freshwater supplies.

Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) is one of the most cost-effective and sustainable ways of converting sea water to fresh water. At Danfoss, we’re committed to making this process as energy efficient as possible, which is why we’re pleased to be participating in the 2023 Membrane Technology Conference & Exhibition. Each year, the conference focuses on new developments in water treatment technologies and desalting applications, and it’s against this backdrop that we will showcase the new Danfoss MPE 70.

Active energy recovery for large SWRO plants

The MPE 70 is the first active energy recovery device (ERD) for medium and large SWRO plants. It integrates a low-voltage motor with an isobaric ERD and offers unprecedented energy efficiency and reliability.  It also reduces the need for ERD redundancy in larger plants, prevents rotor stops due to biofouling and facilitates smarter automation and better predictive maintenance.

Danfoss experts will be on hand to present the MPE 70 and demonstrate how quick and easy it is to assemble our high-pressure pumps.

Danfoss experts to discuss how generator drives improve energy efficiency

On Tuesday, February 21, Francisco Javier Lorenzo, Technical Sales Manager at Danfoss, will present on the topic, “Positive Displacement Pumps as ERD: The Generator Drive”. Over the past few decades, isobaric ERDs have proven to be the most efficient technology. However, energy losses still occur, due to high/low differential pressure, salinity variations, lubrication and other factors. Francisco will discuss how the generator drive – an ERD unit design based on a positive displacement pump connected to an electrical motor that can operate as a generator – can recover energy from the brine outlet line of RO membranes. Find out how this approach improves ERD and desalination system performance in their presentation, which is a part of the INNOVATIONS IN HIGH PRESSURE MEMBRANE SYSTEMS track. The presentation will be held on Tuesday at 3:45 pm
