Electric Heating by Danfoss chosen to protect XVIII-century baroque palace in Kyiv

Designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli in the second half of the XVIII century, Mariyinsky Palace is the official ceremonial residence of the President of Ukraine used for hosting other heads of state.

Electric Heating by Danfoss was chosen as sustainable modern technology to protect the historical landmark during its reconstruction.


To ensure safety of visitors, an efficient ice and snow melting was needed in the outdoor area surrounding the palace. Two flexible electric heating system were used. They perform effective protection of surface meanwhile defending environment against salting and antifreeze damages.

The outdoor electric heating system is fully flexible and functions automatically: it is switched on once the sensors detect low temperature and moisture, and switched off after the surface is cleaned. This provides a cost-effective protection to the large area being most energy efficient solution for the ground ice and snow melting applications. Managed by the high-end controller, the system is maintenance free.


The ceremonial residence of the President of Ukraine is equipped with “Around the Clock” snow cleaning service by Danfoss. Mariyinsky Palace is open for public excursions from September, 2020.
