CO₂ on the move in 2017: bringing hands-on CO₂ training to the customers

Thursday, February 22, 2018

Over the last year, Danfoss has been on a mission. Our objective? Increase the knowledge and understanding of CO2 as a refrigerant.
CO2 has emerged as the go-to refrigeration solution in the food retail market. As traditional HFCs are phased out, food retailers were on the lookout for new ways to reduce their carbon footprint without increasing their energy costs or losing out on efficiency — and they found their answer in this natural refrigerant. However, refrigeration professionals still need essential knowledge about how to make the solution work in new and retrofitted systems. So, in 2017, Danfoss sent our custom-built Mobile CO2 Training Unit out on a world tour, providing easy-to-access, hands-on training to thousands of installers, service technicians, and OEM engineers.

It was quite the journey.

Our trainers had incredible experiences in all the countries they visited and met many passionate and skillful refrigeration professionals. Some of the takeaway are intangible — it's difficult to quantify the way a trainee's face lights up when they have a burst of inspiration and understanding — but there are a few things that we were able to measure that helped paint a picture of our incredible journey. We put them together for you to enjoy here:

"Training has been identified as one of the greatest challenges to the proliferation of sustainable refrigeration solutions," said Hans Ole, Global Segment Director for Food Retail. "CO2 in particular is a new refrigerant to many and invokes fear, when high pressures or transcritical cycles are mentioned. The Danfoss Mobile Training Unit helps de-mystify CO2, bringing it down to earth and showing that a simple cycle can be built and operate anywhere in the world"

Sharing our knowledge of CO2 with over 600 industry professionals in 6 countries within a year is a huge accomplishment for us, but we're only getting started. In fact, we've already launched our 2018 world tour and conducted sessions with over 350 trainees in Turkey alone. From there, the Mobile CO2 Training Unit will continue on into Europe with stops in France, Spain, Slovenia and Poland. Even more locations will be revealed later in the year.

If you're interested in participating in one of the sessions or want to know if it's coming to your area, you can find more information in the links below or get in touch with your local Danfoss contact.

If you are unable to attend one of our sessions in person or if one isn't coming to your area, you can always take advantage of our free online CO₂ lessons that are available through Danfoss Learning.

Mobile CO₂ Training Unit Course Description

The Mobile CO₂ Training Unit makes both the technology and understanding of CO₂ refrigeration immediately available to industry professionals through in-depth training sessions.

Attendees receive knowledge and demonstrations about:

Transcritical CO₂ system design: simple booster, parallel compression, parallel compression with ejector
Commissioning of CO₂ systems
Set up of frontend, pack and case controls
Service procedures
