Reducing ammonia charge for a safer, more efficient future

The Challenge

Chengdu YinLi Logistics is a market distribution cold storage facility in China. The facility uses an ammonia system with pump circulation to serve two cold storage facilities. Each facility has 32 air coolers distributed across multiple floors. 

Committed to maintaining safe, environmentally friendly operations, Yinli selected ammonia as its refrigerant of choice. However, national regulations require that the total system charge for ammonia-based systems not exceed 10 tons. The total ammonia charge for Yinli’s system was well over this limit. Yinli partnered with Danfoss Industrial    Refrigeration to retrofit its system so it could reduce the system charge, thereby improving system safety and efficiency. 

The Solution

The Danfoss team worked with Yinli to convert its existing pump system based on standard air-cooled control to the NeoCharge control solution, including installing 64 electric EKE 450 evaporator controllers in the panels. 

The Results

By switching to NeoCharge, Yinli reduced its system charge to less than 7 tons, far below the national regulation. It also reduced the system’s recirculation rate from 3 to 1.5. Yinli can continue to benefit from its energy-efficient ammonia refrigeration system, while enhancing the safety of its cold storage facility and complying with national safety regulations.
