High capacity and efficient design improve efficiency and make CO2 a more attractive option in industrial settings
Due to its environmental, efficiency and safety benefits, CO2 is an attractive alternative to traditional synthetic refrigerants for customers looking for more environmentally friendly alternatives. But concerns about system efficiency, particularly at high ambient temperatures, have been a barrier to adoption in industrial settings. The new Large CO2 Ejector from Danfoss helps address those concerns, enabling industrial-sized refrigeration and heat pump systems to reduce energy consumption, even in warm climates.
With one of the largest capacities in the world, the Large CO2 Ejector provides a number of features that improve the efficiency of industrial CO2 systems, resulting in cost savings and making CO2 a more attractive option in industrial settings:
Serving as a main expansion valve in industrial racks above 500 kW, the Large CO2 Ejector offers work recovery capabilities at the gas cooler outlet. It can be used with industrial racks with high pressure (HP) or low pressure (LP) lift systems. The HP lift version leverages high-pressure gas energy to move gas from the suction side to parallel compressors, reducing the required compressor capacity and overall energy consumption. Alternatively, the LP lift version recovers energy typically lost during expansion to increase suction pressure. This process lowers the energy consumption of the compressors. Both configurations enhance system efficiency by optimizing energy usage within the refrigeration cycle.
“With ejectors of this capacity, large CO2 systems will become more efficient and easier to design,” said Dean Groff, natural refrigerant business development manager at Danfoss. “By making CO2 a more attractive option for the industrial refrigeration industry and increasing its adoption, the Large CO2 Ejector reflects Danfoss’ goal of helping the industry lower its carbon footprint and meet sustainability goals."
