Case study
How to get started with CO₂?
CO₂ is not a new refrigerant. It has been used for over a century and today, Danfoss is leading its modern renaissance with proven technology and thousands of successful installations worldwide. The Wiese City Butchery’s refurbishment case study shows how Danfoss CO₂ condensing units make the switch simple, with fast installation, easy commissioning, and reliable operation.
With a GWP of just 1, CO₂ meets all future F‑Gas requirements, ensuring a long‑term, future‑proof investment that delivers energy efficiency, low noise, and sustainable cooling for cold rooms and commercial applications. As a trusted partner with deep expertise, Danfoss provides the components, tools, and support needed to start the CO₂ journey with confidence and secure lasting value.

The small but reliable condensing unit
The Optyma™ iCO₂ 1.5 to 4.6kW (MT) is ideal for small stores and small to medium HORECA cold rooms or display cabinets, offering reliable performance throughout its effective lifespan. These condensing units are stackable and can run in ambient temperatures of up to 46°C with two-door access granting fast and easy setup and maintenance.
In addition, the Optyma™ iCO₂ 4.6kW is designed for near-silent operation and is supported by the Danfoss System Managers application. Allowing for increased monitoring and management capabilities. Each unit can also be used in combination with AKVs, offering a complete cooling package.

Control the cold for better business.
Optyma™ cold room controllers are designed for seamless installation with indoor or outdoor single-phase condensing units. When paired with Danfoss IoT solutions, you get precise control over your Optyma™ condensing unit. Further expanding its operational lifespan, increasing temperature control, reliability, and less overall maintenance. Furthermore, the Optyma™ controller provides multiple defrost methods resulting in superior energy efficiency.

Accurate and reliable expansion valve.
The proven TE2 thermostatic expansion valve provides efficient injection control of liquid refrigerant in food retail applications. The TE2 is suitable for small to medium size refrigeration systems, such as cold rooms and display cabinets commonly used in convenience stores, restaurants, small supermarkets, etc. And with a wide temperature range, high operating pressure, interchangeable orifice assembly, and stainless-steel bulb, the TE2 offers a long service life with quick installation and minimal maintenance.

An electric expansion valve to ensure food safety.
AKVP electric expansion valves are the ideal solution for safe and reliable refrigeration.
A simple and innovative design makes the AKVP valves easy to install, service, and energy-efficient, with a low leakage risk. In turn, increasing its reliability while reducing operational costs and expenses.

The robust valve with a long lifetime
These high-pressure range valves are specially designed for CO₂ refrigeration systems. We offer normally closed or normally open direct-operated and servo-operated solutions, allowing you to handle any system and any scenario. As well, a robust and compact design allows for a simple mounting and installation process and increased operational life.

A valve for excellent leak protection
EVUL solenoid valves are compact, lightweight, and intended to fit into most refrigeration systems. Fully hermetic and constructed out of stainless steel, the EVUL valves have superior leak protection, making them highly energy efficient. In addition, we offer both normally closed and normally open options to suit any system.
