Features, setup and troubleshooting

Error type E4 means that the room temperature sensor value is too high or too low. This is an unrecoverable error. Contact service to find a solution. The thermostat requires a restart to operate again.

Error type E3 means Thermostat is overheated, heating is turned off. Wait until thermostat cools down. The thermostat requires no restart, but will start heating when the temperature is lowered.

Error type E2 means Floor Sensor short-circuited. Contact service to find a solution. The thermostat requires a restart to operate again.

Error type E1 means Floor Sensor disconnected, meaning the connection to sensor is lost. Contact service to find a solution. The thermostat requires a restart to operate again.

Yes. There will be an icon in the room list of the app showing if window open are detected.

The installed floor sensor is identified by measuring the ohmic value.

During the Technician setup the correct installed floor sensor can be selected.

The installation can partly be done without Wi-Fi, since the installation of the Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat is split in two.

Technician setup - this can be made without Wi-Fi, so that the thermostat can start temperature regulation.
Wi-Fi setup – this cannot be done without Wi-Fi connection. Meaning you will not be able to see the thermostat in the app before Wi-Fi has been setup.

The power consumption in kWh for the actual thermostat can be found under [Thermostat information].

Consumption is split in:

How to reset the thermostat?

The thermostat can be reset by:

Press and hold Control button and the up arrow for 5 seconds on the thermostat
When display on the thermostat goes blank – press the green control button to confirm total reset

When the thermostat is repowered it will remember all settings and time, and it will continue the programmed heating cycle.

The thermostat can be turned off from both the actual thermostat and from the app. When in OFF state the display will show only a green control button.

Thermostat: Press and hold the control button for 5 seconds.

App: Select [Advanced settings] for the relevant thermostat and scroll to the bottom and press [ON / OFF]

When you touch one of the arrows or the control button, then it will display the actual room temperature.

No. The Smart thermostat cannot be used without an Android or iPhone Smartphone.

If Wi-Fi is lost, then the thermostat will keep regulating the room temperature, but you will not be able to establish connection using your phone.

Lost Wi-Fi connection will give an alarm in the app, and you can chose to get a Push notification as alarm on your phone.

Push notifications can be enabled by choosing [Settings] and [Notifications]

The Smart thermostat can regulate the room temperature without Wi-Fi connection, if Technician setup has been made, and it is displaying the actual room temperature.

Time zone is set by the phone during installation, and it will stay like this, even if you move the phone to a different time zone later.

Time will be maintained and adjusted according to summer and winter time automatically.

Actual time on the thermostats will be displayed on the main screen – showing Living zone.

App

Manual temperature can be used when the heating schedule is not needed in an individual room or the Living Zone.

Manual temperature is particular useful if you have a guest room that is rarely used. The heating schedule could be active when the guest is staying in the room and when the guest leaves you could switch to a lower manual temperature saving you energy.

Please note that any room can be changed into an Individual room by following the instructions in this article: What is Living Zone?

Manual temperature for an individual room can be activated as described here:

Access the right side panel of the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App.

Access the right side panel of the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App.

Scroll down to the "Individual rooms" section.
Click on the room name of interest.

Slide "Manual temperature" from "Off" to "On"

"Manual temperature" is now activated.
Choose a different manual temperature if needed.

We recommend that you adapt the heating schedule of the Living Zone and the individual room(s) to your needs so Danfoss ECtemp Smart knows when are you at home and when are you away or asleep.

Additionally you could consider what the needed temperature for each room should be when you are at home and away or asleep. Generally the rooms where you spend the most time would most likely require a higher temperature than the rooms where you are less often or where you sleep.

Approximately 5% of energy savings is possible for every degree of Celsius the temperature is lowered in the home.

The following steps show how you can remove the connection to a Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat from the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App.

Access the left side panel of the App. Click [Settings]. Click [Edit room] or [Edit house].

Follow the instructions on the screen on Android.

On iPhone/iPad select the pencil in upper right side of the screen, and select the room (thermostat) or house to remove. Select [delete] in the bottom to confirm.

The change should happen fast (within a few seconds). Delay should only be experienced if the internet connection on the phone or tablet or Danfoss ECtemp Smart is slow.

If the internet connection is unstable then a change may be lost and it is required by the user to try again.

To find the Danfoss ECtemp Smart serial number you can take the front apart from the bottom part, mounted in the wall. The serial number will be on the back of the front part and on the front of the back part of the thermostat. Alternatively you can use the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App.

Chose the [Room], select [Thermostat Information] and look for “Serial number”

The Danfoss ECtemp Smart App is available from Google Play and App Store on iTunes.

The same Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat can be paired with up to 10 mobile devices.

Two users may use the App simultaneously on the same Danfoss ECtemp Smart.

Temperatures can be adjusted directly on the thermostat by touching the up and down arrows on the front. If thermostat is using “Heating schedule”, this will be overwritten when controlled by the scheduled actions.

The temperatures desired for when you are at home and away or asleep can be set individually for each room using the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App.

Access the right side panel of the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App.

You now have two options.
Click on the pencil to change the current temperature for any room on the list. If thermostat is using “Heating schedule”, this will be overwritten when controlled by the scheduled actions.
Click on a [room name] to view both "At home" and "Away and Asleep" temperatures for that room. This will change the temperatures permanently until you change it again in the same way.

Change the temperatures.

When the App is opened for the first time the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App will show a step by step guide on how to add the App to the Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat.

There are several ways to do this:

Follow the step by step set-up guide for the initial set-up.

You can share an established configuration by [Share house] and [Receive house]. Please refer to “How do I share access to my Smart thermostat with other users”.

Yes. The only requirement is that your phone or tablet and the Danfoss ECtemp Smart both have a working internet connection.

If you are using the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App in a different country than where you live then please be aware that roaming fees may apply for your internet connection.

No, except in for initial setup of the thermostat. A working internet connection is required for Danfoss ECtemp Smart App and Danfoss ECtemp Smart to work together and stay updated.

The Danfoss ECtemp Smart App is freely available to everyone.

You can ask another person eg. an installer, to download the App and follow the App’s guide on how to connect it to your Danfoss ECtemp Smart. You chose [Share House] and tell the code to the assisting person. The assisting person must enter this code under [Receive house] within two minutes from the code were given. Doing this will transfer your settings to the assisting person, supporting you.

You can remove App connections on the Danfoss ECtemp Smart at any time, under [Settings] and [User administration]. Removal is required for each individual thermostat.

Yes. Please refer to “How do I install an additional Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat?”.

You can control multiple locations (houses) and thermostats from the App by adding another house and adding extra rooms.

Warning! This can damage your system, if used in the wrong way.

Please consult the manual (section 9: Settings) for information regarding break out.

If the thermostat is already installed you can reconfigure the thermostat by selecting it:

  • Pres the thermometer in the upper right corner of the main screen in the Danfoss ECtemp Smart app
  • Choose the room/thermostat that you would like to modify in the list of thermostats
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and press [Advanced settings]
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and press [Technician setup]

If you turn the thermostat off and on again the thermostat will then enter configuration mode. In the app you then go into [settings] and select [install thermostat], the app will now guide you to get access to the thermostat and afterwards show the current configuration. Here you can reconfigure the Wi-Fi settings.

The software on the thermostat is updated automatically, without the user needs to do anything.

The Danfoss ECtemp Smart app is updated trough the respective stores.

The thermostat is calibrating when turned on. This can take up to 30 minutes. This is to optimize the thermostat to the surroundings.

If your installed thermostats are online, then they will be in the thermostat list showing actual temperature and set point.

If your thermostats are missing, then check if you have chosen the correct house.

The thermostat can only be controlled if they are online and the app can get a connection to the thermostat.

You can use an iPhone or a phone running Android.

Please see: ''What versions of iOS and Android can I use''.

Check your smartphone or Device connection

In case of a lost connection to the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App check that your device/ Smartphone are connected - a ‘lost connection’ notice will show on the screen. Follow the device message to reconnect to the network.

Check your Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat connection
There are many factors that might cause your Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat to be off-line occasionally. Before spending the time troubleshooting your home network, you should verify that one of these more common issues aren’t causing the problem:

  • The connection to the Internet at your home is down
  • A power failure at home
  • There is a problem with your Wi-Fi router

You can test this by verifying that your phone can connect to the Internet via the same Wi-Fi network.

If you are still experiencing problems – check these troubleshooting steps:

  • Restart Wi-Fi Router and/or Access point
  • Check the router parameters – the table above shows the recommended settings for the Danfoss ECtemp Smart.
  • Try to connect the Danfoss ECtemp Smart to a mobile hotspot using your smartphone
  • Restart the Danfoss ECtemp Smart
  • Check for 2.4 GHz interference – there is more details below about the types of devices that could be interrupting the signal.
  • Check the parental controls on your Wi-Fi router/access point and other firewall settings (Refer to your Wi-Fi router documentation to see if this feature is enabled on your network and how you can exempt the Danfoss ECtemp Smart from these restrictions).
  • Update your Wi-Fi access point or router’s firmware.

When the app is showing ”No connection” to thermostats, then connection between app and thermostats cannot be established.

Thermostats without internet connection will still be working, and they will be regulating the room temperature according to the settings programmed in the app during the last connection.

All settings are stored locally in the thermostats, so they can be setup and used without internet connection.

To find out why there is no connection – please go to the “No connection” section of our support site and follow the trouble shooter.

Currently the Danfoss ECtemp Smart app is only developed for Android and Apple IOS.

Currently the Danfoss ECtemp Smart app is only developed for Android and Apple IOS.

Danfoss ECtemp Smart is available on iOS 7, iOS 8 and iOS 9. The android version is available on android 4.4.x, 5.x and 6.x.

A Living Zone is a single room or a number of rooms that can be set to follow the same timer settings when programming comfort temperature and economy temperature for your house. Specifically it is a list of rooms sharing the same heating schedule for when you are at home and away or asleep.

Living Zone is a quick way to control the heating where you live and can be set directly from the ECtemp Smart App.

Comfort temperature and economy temperature is still adjusted individually.

Rooms can be added or removed from the Living Zone.

An example of a room that you might prefer to handle outside a Living Zone can be your bedroom, as it is typically used at other periods than other rooms in the house.

You can move rooms (thermostats) in and out of the Living Zone heating schedule as described here:

  • In the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App, activate menu by tapping the menu icon (tree lines) in upper left corner of the main screen.
  • Tap [Schedule] and you will get a list of the installed thermostats
  • Tap the pencil icon in upper right corner and you can now slide the rooms (thermostats) between “Living Zone” and “Individual room”
  • Save the new setting by tapping the checkmark in upper right corner

The Danfoss ECtemp Smart system allows you to share a “House” (Connection and setup of one or more thermostats at same location) with other persons, but before doing this, it is important to notice – that when sharing a “House” you also transfer full rights to manage or change your system.

  • New user can install or delete thermostats.
  • New user can share with new persons or delete current users.

You share access to your installed Smart thermostats by pressing the three lines in the upper left corner of the main screen in the Danfoss ECtemp Smart app:

  • Here you choose [Settings]
  • Then press [Share house] to open a page that will show you a code.
  • The code will for security reason only be valid for 2 minutes.
  • The person receiving the code should press [Receive house] and type in the code from sender. If this is not done within 2 minute timeframe, then sender has to create a new code and share.

Wi-Fi connection

Some Samsung phones have a “Smart Network switch”. This Smart Network needs to be switched off for the phone to connect to the DEVIsmart network. Go to [Settings] and [Wi-Fi] on your phone and disconnect the “Smart Network switch” and try to connect your ECtemp Smart App to your Danfoss ECtemp Smart.

The Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat supports Wi-Fi routers with 2.4 GHz frequency. Most Wi-Fi routers that support 5 GHz also support 2.4 GHz by default to ensure the widest compatibility with Wi-Fi products. Please consult the manual of your router to learn more about what frequencies it can support.

In case of connection issues please make sure that your phone or tablet is connected to internet using Wi-Fi or mobile data connection and that the Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat has access to Wi-Fi with working internet.

To troubleshoot this, please follow the article “I have no connection”.

Please try to search for the Wi-Fi network one more time.

If that doesn't work you may have a hidden network and in that case please consult the manual of your Wi-Fi router to find out if your Wi-Fi network is hidden (SSID Broadcast disabled) and how to make your Wi-Fi network visible (SSID Broadcast enabled).

Once you have completed this step you can connect the Danfoss ECtemp Smart to your Wi-Fi as described in this article: How do I add the Danfoss ECtemp Smart App to my Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat?

When the Danfoss ECtemp Smart thermostat is connected to your Wi-Fi you can afterwards hide your Wi-Fi network again if needed by consulting the manual of your Wi-Fi router.

If you are unsure on how to configure your Wi-Fi router we recommend you contact the provider of your router.

In very rare cases the Wi-Fi network may not be shown due to the chosen frequency on the Wi-Fi router.

The Wi-Fi password can usually be found on a label on your router or on the information sheet that was provided with your router. This is a standard practice for most internet service providers. If the Wi-Fi password is not found then try to contact your internet service provider to see if they can provide you with the Wi-Fi password.

Your internet service provider may suggest that you manually reset the router to its factory defaults and follow the instructions in the routers manual on how to setup the Wi-Fi again. Please be aware that you should under no circumstance reset your router to factory defaults unless the provider of your router says it is okay.

If you no longer have the manual of your router you can probably find it on the internet. Start by locating the model name and number on the router itself and search the internet for the phrase "<insert model name number> manual". Please be aware that if you reset your router that all your connected devices may need to be reconnected to your Wi-Fi network again.

Please contact your internet service provider or the information you received with your internet.

If the thermostat is configured and shows a temperature, but not configured for Wi-Fi it will start pulsating blue when the control button is touched. When the thermostat is pulsating blue, please choose [setup thermostat] in the app.

You can only access the thermostat if you have created a secure parring with it.

During installation the thermostat only shows the Wi-Fi networks it can connect to. The list shown during installation indicated the signal quality of each Wi-Fi.

Yes. The app is only able to communicate remotely with the thermostat if the thermostat is connected to Wi-Fi.

The C3 error shows that there is no internet connection.

The C2 error shows that the thermostat does not get an IP address. Please check the settings of your router.

The C1 error shows that the thermostat is not able to connect to the Wi-Fi. Please check the name of the Wi-Fi and the Password on the thermostat, see “What do I do when I get a new router?”

  • The thermostat is showing a temperature but shows C1, C2 etc. just before turning off the display. Please see My thermostat shows C1, My thermostat shows C2 or My thermostat shows C3
  • The thermostat shows a “–“ and starts pulsating blue when I touch it. See “How do I setup my Danfoss ECtemp Smart”
  • The thermostat shows a temperature and starts pulsating blue when I touch it. Please see “How do I configure Wi-Fi if the thermostat is already configured?”
