Bundgaard reaches high environmental Standards by utilizing hydrocarbon-optimized products from Danfoss R290 propane-based cooling systems, chillers, and heat pumps require high performance components. When Danish manufacturer Bundgaard looked for a quality supplier for these safe and efficient systems, they looked to Danfoss.

Safety always comes first

Bundgaard is rapidly becoming a leading manufacturer of R290 propane-based hydrocarbon cooling systems in Denmark. To ensure high quality as well as high safety in their solutions, Bundgaard cooperates with Danfoss.

Bundgaard produces up to 50 state-of-the-art hydrocarbon systems annually for the industry segment, which continues to grow. The systems are used for comfort cooling in large offices and production plants, swimming pools, stables, and farms.

Using the natural refrigerant R290 propane, which has particularly efficient thermodynamic properties, requires detailed safety measures.

"At Bundgaard, our first concern is safety, and we design our systems to withstand the worst-case scenario," says company sales and marketing representative Morten Sminge Frederiksen and continues: "Our products must be safe and easy to work with for our customers, mounters, colleagues, as well as our partners."

Safe products require reliable, quality components; one of the many reasons why Bundgaard has chosen to cooperate with Danfoss. Utilising Danfoss coils, filters, EVRE solenoid valves, and KP-E pressure controls specially developed for hydrocarbons, Bundgaard's R290 propane systems are not only reliable; they also help lowering customers' operating and maintenance costs significantly.

With R290 models such as the A/W Chiller, A/W Chiller V-condenser, W/W Chiller, and W/W Heat Pump, the R290 systems require an extremely low charge in the unit, comparatively, and the rest of the cooling system uses water. This both increases safety and gives a low environmental impact from the refrigerant.

"It's such an efficient process that some Bundgaard customers have a hard time believing it," says Frederiksen. "A customer called us and said, 'The system must be broken, it uses too little power.' Of course, there was nothing wrong with the system, but the low energy consumption had confused their external monitoring equipment. It was bound to be misread, as the monitoring equipment was set up for an HFC system," he explains.

The high performance of an R290 system requires Danfoss quality components for safety, performance, and reliability.
"Danfoss has a great reputation," Frederiksen notes.

"We put a high priority on quality and performance – which Danfoss lives up to – but we also choose them for their service and competitive pricing. Their fast technical support and flexible delivery mean that we can focus on our customers. That creates great relationships all around," he adds and concludes: "Future legislation will most likely increase the focus on more efficient and environmentally sustainable cooling systems and, along with Danfoss components, we are at the forefront of this rapidly growing technology."

With R290 models such as the A/W Chiller, A/W Chiller V-condenser, W/W Chiller, and W/W Heat Pump, Bundgaard systems have diverse and customizable applications, from comfort cooling in large offices and production plants, to swimming pools, stables, and farms.

In these industries, efficiency is paramount; both for customers’ operating costs and for the environment. As a company, Bundgaard’s focus is to produce safe, energy-saving products with low environmental impact, and Danfoss components are an important part of that process.

With the R290 propane refrigerant in their systems, the company achieves significantly more efficient results for their customers. Their R290 propane systems are among the most environmental-friendly systems on the market.

An important measure for the environmental impact of a refrigerant is the Global Warming Potential (GWP), which quantifies the global warming potential relative to CO2. To illustrate the environmental advantage of the R290 systems, the GWP of the refrigerant HFC R410A is 1720 compared to just three for R290 (TEAP). This means that 1 kg of R410A has the same potential to affect global warming as 1720 kg of CO2, where 1 kg of R290 is equivalent to only 3 kg of CO2. This equates to a huge reduction of GWP for Bundgaard customers; a fact that the company takes pride in.
