The world can achieve more with less

According to the International Energy Agency, a growing population and increased standards of living will see global energy demand rise by one third between 2011 and 2035. But, what if we could create the fuel of tomorrow from everything we can save today? Together with industry and cities, Danfoss is demonstrating how it is possible.

As the world seeks to reduce its carbon emissions while, at the same time, addressing the increasing demand for energy, leading economies are turning their focus towards energy-efficient solutions to help build a smarter and more sustainable society.
And for good reason. Energy efficiency is the fastest, cleanest, and cheapest way to decarbonize the global economy while meeting the increasing demand for energy.

The potential for energy efficiency is particularly huge in cities through the deployment of intelligent infrastructure, such as district energy – the distribution of heating and cooling in buildings. For the past years, Danfoss has worked together with cities like Hamburg, Germany, and Anshan in China to help them make more out of the energy usage. In Anshan, the city is on track to save more than 60% of the coal consumption for heating, simply by replacing it with surplus heat from the local steal plant via a district heating network.

The potential is also huge in the building sector. According to Sustainable Energy for All, a UN initiative, the building sector accounts for one third of the global energy use and according to the International Energy Agency is expected to account for 26 % of all the future energy efficiency savings, mainly coming from space heating and cooling, lighting and appliances.

In Shanghai Tower, when finished the second tallest building in the world, 6,700 Danfoss valves will be installed to control the cooling and heating systems and help save 20 % of the energy used to heat and cool the tower. 660 variable speed drives, which control the speed of the motors in the systems, will help contribute with additional 20-40 % savings.
And at the new Carrefour supermarket in Villeneuve-la-Garenne in Paris, energy-efficient Danfoss technology secures that food are kept at the right temperature. By using groundbreaking technology, the refrigeration system is also heating up the entire store, amounting to 11,300 m2 .

We have the solutions and technologies necessary to make significant improvement in energy efficiency. Let’s realize the potential.
