torstai 30. lokakuuta 2025

VAASA, Finland – Danfoss Drives, a global leader in AC drives and power converters, and LUT University (Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT) have entered into an open-ended framework agreement to formalize and intensify their long-standing research and development (R&D) collaboration. The agreement aims to accelerate innovation, particularly in the field of power electronics, by combining LUT University's leading-edge academic research with Danfoss' robust industrial expertise and market insight.

The partnership will be project-based, focusing on the development of future technologies. It will encompass joint research projects funded by programs from sources such as Business Finland and the European Union. The agreement builds upon an already successful history of collaboration, including the EU-funded STEESMAT project (Smart Transformer for Enhanced Efficiency and Sustainability in Maritime Transportation) and initiatives focused on developing core technologies for AC drives.

"This framework agreement is a strategically important step for us. With global electrification on the rise, the significance of power electronics and power conversion continues to grow," says Nicklas Södö, Director of Technology at Danfoss Drives. "LUT University is a highly respected research partner in our field, providing us with the latest scientific knowledge and insights into future technologies. Together, we can accelerate the pace of innovation and respond even better to the needs of our customers."

The framework agreement reinforces the "Fossil Free Future" Veturi program led by Danfoss and supports its role in Business Finland's Veturi ecosystem programs, which aim to increase R&D investments in Finland and build internationally competitive ecosystems. The collaboration will also provide unique opportunities for LUT University's students and researchers to work on tangible industrial challenges and advance their expertise.

"We are delighted to intensify our collaboration with a global technology leader like Danfoss," says Juha-Matti Saksa, Rector of LUT University. "This agreement gives our researchers and students a unique opportunity to apply their research in practice and to be part of creating sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. Cooperation with industry is vital for the impact of our research and for educating the experts of the future."

Danfoss actively collaborates with numerous Finnish and international universities and research institutions, such as VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The framework agreement with LUT University is an important addition to this extensive partnership network.
