Our unique Digital Displacement® pump is suitable for diesel, hybrid and fully electric off-highway machines.
Digital Displacement pumps – improved off-highway efficiency – whichever future you choose
We are experts in digital mobile hydraulics
By replacing a standard pump with a digitally enabled pump, our customers enjoy improved productivity and control for better fuel consumption and the potential to downsize engines or battery packs. It is a technology which delivers benefits today and will be equally beneficial tomorrow - whichever route you take.
- Smoother faster control means more work done per day
- Improved engine-to-work efficiency means increased maximum power - with the same size engine. Or the opportunity to downsize engines, without any loss of power or control
- Intelligent digital controls mean individual cylinders are only called into action when required, reducing losses system-wide
- This means longer work-cycles or smaller batteries for next-generation electric machines
Digital Displacement® Innovation center
Each Danfoss Digital Displacement pump will be assembled at our new global Digital Displacement manufacturing and R&D facility near Edinburgh, Scotland.
Here we have developed a ground-breaking, dynamic manufacturing facility which brings a new approach to precision assembly. This will ensure quality at every stage.
The fully flexible facility has been custom designed from the ground up. Helping to assemble a new generation of Digital Displacement pumps for off-highway and industrial customers.
Production has already begun, with the first customer pumps rolling off the line in August.

Digital Displacement for off-highway
Our unique Digital displacement pump is suitable for diesel, hybrid and fully electric off-highway machines. It has been designed by Danfoss to be easily integrated into standard machines. This is offering a straightforward route to improved efficiency, productivity and control
Are you ready for a hydraulic revolution?
Our Digital Displacement technology is ready, and it will have a global impact. With this technology, we can save 40 million tons of CO2 – the annual energy use of 4.6 million homes – just by reducing waste heat in excavators.
Digital Displacement® pump
Our Digital Displacement® hydraulics is a fundamental innovation. It utilizes a radial piston machine which enables cylinders in real time, using ultra-fast mechatronic valves controlled by an embedded, intelligent computer. This makes our pump highly controllable and extremely efficient. The result is lower energy losses, increased productivity and faster response time.
Traditional Hydraulics. The time for change has arrived
Suitable for diesel, hybrid or electric machines this unique fully patented technology has been in development for over a decade and can be easily integrated into all standard machines.
Traditional hydraulic systems in today’s excavators are notoriously inefficient, wasting as much as 70 percent of the engine’s power before it reaches the bucket.
The switch of construction equipment to electrification is nowadays predominantly driven by regional zero emission regulations put in place by local governments. At the same time, there is an ever-increasing interest and commitment from key market players to move towards low and preferably zero emission solutions. However, the challenges in mass adopting the existing solutions are the large capital investment in batteries, the charging infrastructure and the limited operating range.
Retrofitting an iconic Finnish ferry
For retrofitting the iconic Finnish ferry - Prostvik, Danfoss Editron introduced its new direct current-link solution, consisting of a compact and lightweight diesel-electrical drivetrain. The main benefits of installing a diesel-electric system are significantly reducing the ferry’s environmental footprint, as well as achieving redundancy.

By combining Danfoss Editron's industry-leading electric drivetrain systems with our innovative Digital Displacement® pump technology, we make electrification a commercially viable option for construction machinery and help the industry significantly reduce its CO2 emissions footprint.
Digital Displacement paves the way for an off-highway revolutionThursday, November 5, 2020
From lab to market: Danfoss Digital Displacement technology is now being launched to cut fuel consumption in excavators by staggering numbers. This will have a global impact as we can save 40 million tons of CO2 – the energy use of 4.6 million homes for one year – by reducing waste heat in excavators.
