"What were the interesting aspects of this project? The assignment under this public procurement included a requirement for implementation of a complete solution for the substations which would provide not only for replacement of the equipment but also opportunities for remote control of the operation thereof. When selecting the components for the new substations we decided on the latest Danfoss district heating equipment."
Assoc. Prof. Blago Gunev, DEng,
The tender initiated in 2011 for public procurement for replacement of 10 substations in the dormitory buildings of the Technical University campus in Sofia was awarded to ITA COM LTD, a long standing business and service partner of Danfoss in the field of district heating controls.
The design for the new substations was elaborated and accomplished under the supervision of the two company co-managers, the engineers Blago Gunev and Vesselin Boyadjiev.
Work on replacement of the existing obsolete substations of the students’ dormitories started in February 2012 and within just a month the substations were replaced. Along with replacement of the substations, the rooms where they were located were totally refurbished, new floor coating applied, new lighting systems and washbowls installed.
The project was carried out by ITA COM Ltd. in direct cooperation with Danfoss District Energy in Bulgaria. Another company, Eurosys Ltd. also took part in this project by supplying the communication and software modules of the SCADA-INFOSYS’12 system for remote control and supervision via GPRS communications in GSM environment.
The new Danfoss ECL Comfort 210 controllers used in this project, thanks to the integrated know-how of heat supply control and the built-in Modbus, enabled continuous remote control of the operation of the substations in the dormitory blocks from the remote operator panels located in the Technical University and the office of ITA COM Ltd. via the Internet. This provides opportunities for maximum optimization of the operation of the substations, through the integrated emergency alarms inclusive.
