Chapter 1. SG+ stainless steel sight glasses - exceptionally reliable in any environment

Extensive testing and research has resulted in Danfoss introducing the new SG+ sight glass range which has been optimised to its full potential to meet all current and future requirements. SG+ is the first full range of stainless steel sight glasses available in the market, with all models being corrosion free and being suitable for a maximum working pressure of 46 bar allowing use with R410A.

Chapter 2. Features

  • Laser welding & steel-glass joining provide very reliable tightness and strength that can bear 5 x >> MWP.
  • The stainless steel valve body provides long-term anti-corrosion properties.
  • The components and construction reduce the thermal sensitivity of SG+, thereby minimizing the risk of overheating when brazing.
  • The Max Working Pressure is improved up to 46 bar (667 psi) for all the valves in SG+ platform.
  • SGN+ are available for R410A thus replacing the SGN and SGH models reducing the amount of code numbers required for stock.
  • SG+ is much easier to observe with 14% greater viewing area when compared to the SG version.
  • No 'Black Eye' (no influence from dirt in the system).
  • Available with optional plastic cap offering extra protection to the sight glass.
  • SG+ is available at the same pricing level of the previous SG range giving great value for money.

Chapter 3. Range overview

SGN+ is equipped with sensitive indicators that reflect a colour, depending on the moisture content in the refrigerant. They are suitable for HFC (including R410A) and HCFC.

  • SGN+ is mounted in the liquid line to monitor the moisture content.
  • SGRN+ is mounted in oil receiver or compressor to monitor the moisture content.

SGM+ is mainly used to indicate the condition of the refrigerant.

SGM+ is mounted in the liquid line to monitor the refrigerant and can be used to see;

- If subcooling is insufficient (bubbles)

- If there is acid in the system (oil discoloured from light brown to black)

The code numbers remain almost the same. The "-" of the previous SG versions is replaced with an "F" for the new SG+ versions e.g. 014-0171 becomes 014F0171.

This, however, is not the case for SGH as they are now replaced by SGN+ as indicated in the table above. The introduction of the SG+ will be phased in over the coming months with a safety stock of the SG being gradually reduced as that of the SG+ is increased.
