Trams use pressure transmitters in their hydraulic systems

Brake producers benefit from Danfoss pressure transmitters

07 May 2009
Danfoss has been engaging in extensive talks with producers of air pressure brakes and hydraulic brake systems for trains and trams over the past few years. Through its partnerships with these manufacturers, Danfoss is helping make railway and tram break systems safer and more reliable. And Danfoss’ high quality pressure transmitter promises to be just the beginning.

Reliable transmitters for safer travel

In 2005, Danfoss began a series of in-depth technical discussions with brake system manufacturers. The goal was to develop a high quality, reliable pressure transmitter for a hydraulic brake system for trams.

In a hydraulic brake system, the pressure transmitter measures pressure in the oil tank and the actual pressure in the brake system. To meet industry demands, Danfoss developed a compact pressure transmitter for trams, which have limited space in the hydraulic system. The new pressure transmitter also needed to be able to cope with temperatures as low as -40ºC, because trams operate year round in extreme climate conditions. The answer was Danfoss’ MBS 3050 pressure transmitter.
MBS 3050 pressure transmitter is designed specifically for hydraulic applications
Designed specifically for hydraulic applications, the MBS 3050 offers:

  • A pressure range of up to 600 bar with an integrated pulse snubber
  • Ambient temperature range between -40 and 85ºC
  • Compact design

So far the pressure transmitter has been a big success. Danfoss has once again demonstrated that they’re a flexible partner who’s willing to go the extra mile to meet customer demands. And this looks like the beginning of another successful working relationship.
