Keeping the pressure on cost savings

03 April 2008
While the air around us may be free, harnessing it for use in industrial applications can be expensive. An air booster controlled by a Danfoss pressure transmitter can help reduce costs.

Optimising air compressor equipment saves money and boosts efficiency

Compressed air is a vital element of modern industrial production, whether in labour-saving tools or in the production process itself. But with many compressors working at less than 20 percent efficiency, they have to be worked hard to ensure that air volume and pressure remain constant and according to the user's specification.

And of course, the harder a compressor works the more it costs - both in terms of energy consumed and in wear and tear on internal components.

To reduce the load on compressors and reduce the accompanying costs, manufacturers can add an air booster at an intermediate stage to 'boost' the air to the required pressure and ensure a stable supply to critical equipment. Without precise control, however, air boosters won't function effectively and so many manufacturers turn to Danfoss’ range of pressure transmitters. A typical choice is the compact pressure transmitter MBS 3000, which is designed for use in almost all industrial applications and offers a reliable pressure measurement, even under harsh environmental conditions.

The flexible pressure transmitter programme covers different output signals, absolute and gauge (relative) versions, measuring ranges from 0-1 to 0-600 bar and a wide range of pressure and electrical connections.

Excellent vibration stability, robust construction, and a high degree of EMC/EMI protection equip the pressure transmitter to meet the most stringent industrial requirements.

For several leading manufacturers of compressors and air boosters in Asia, the MBS 3000 has been a popular choice.
