Environmental regulations has lead to an increase in demand for more efficient power generation

Helping to power North America

09 February 2007
Environmental regulation, climate concerns and a growth in renewable energy technology has led to an upsurge in demand for more efficient large diesel engines in the construction and power industries, as well as an increase in wind turbines. All these need sensors to monitor temperature and pressure, leading to great opportunities for Danfoss Industrial Automation in the North American market.

Environmental concerns call for Danfoss sensors

Over the past 15 years, stringent emission requirements for diesel engines in the United States has meant that diesel manufacturers have had to build more technology into what were once considered relatively low-tech engines. Mechanically controlled engines are being replaced by electronically controlled ones. More recently, concerns about climate change and the demand for renewable energy sources have led to an increase in industrial equipment requiring reliable monitoring of pressure and temperature.

Construction equipment manufacturers represent one of the largest areas of growth, due to the extensive use of hydraulics and gearboxes. Construction equipment has become specialized and powerful. The next generation of construction equipment will be even more complex, requiring the extensive use of temperature and pressure monitoring. This is why Danfoss is focusing on delivering solutions to this growing sector.

Power generation through the use of large diesel engines is also evolving, as regulations call for low emissions and the market continues to compete based on efficiency of power delivered. One of the ways to achieve this is through monitoring parameters such as temperature and pressure to get maximum output – even while limiting NOx emissions. With its long history of supplying components for large diesel engines used in the maritime industry, Danfoss has an advantage when it comes to the power generation market.
Wind turbines for producing electricity are now becoming widely accepted
Wind turbines for producing electricity are now becoming a widely accepted alternative to fossil fuel based energy production in North America. Components such as gearboxes need constant monitoring of pressure and temperature. This is yet another area of growth for Danfoss Industrial Automation in the North American market.
