Danfoss helps you make the right choice in cooling water valves

11 February 2008
Equipment such as hydraulic systems, compressors, vacuum pumps, distilling plants, and injection plastic moulding machines must be kept at a constant temperature. Minor variations in temperature can have an adverse impact on product quality, often resulting in product (and profit) loss.

The right valve choice can prolong the life of your machine

A temperature adjusted cooling water valve helps maintain the correct temperature of your machines and equipment. Danfoss has four different types of valve available to do the job:

  • Often referred to as the fit and forget valve, the self-acting thermostatically operated valve type is easy to install, works without electrical power, is insensitive to dirt particles and saves water. This valve is now available in de-zincification resistant brass or acid-proof stainless steel to cope with the effects of aggressive media, such as steam from technical water. It can even be supplied in titanium to order.
  • Electronically controlled proportional valves can be surveyed and controlled by computer. In addition to the valve, an electronic temperature sensor and a P/PID regulator to transmit the open/close signals is required. This allows for smooth operation and prolongs the life of the valve.
  • Electronically controlled pulse width modulating solenoid valves are becoming more widespread as the use of electronic control systems grows. The valve is regulated by adjustable pulse width modulation that responds to the need for cooling water in the system. If there is no need for cooling, the valve remains closed like an ordinary solenoid valve.
  • Electronically controlled motor valves operate in much the same way as electronically controlled proportional valves. This results in genuine proportional regulation, since the opening degree of the valve is dependant on a temperature sensor and a regulator.

Making the right cooling water valve choice will not only prolong the life of your machines and equipment, it will help ensure a constant temperature so your production process remains stable.
