Application criteria
Special requirements regarding hygiene and cleaning are necessary in the production areas of the food and beverage industry. This is due to the sensitivity of the products and their perishable nature. For this reason, most equipment and production machines are made of stainless steel, permitting thorough cleaning once production has ended. Stainless steel also allows the use of acid or alkali-based cleaning agents which, in combination with disinfectants, ensure that all relevant germs and bacteria are destroyed.
With gear motors, which are generally mounted directly onto the machines, it has not been possible to fulfil these requirements in the past. The reasons for this are the design of the housing structures, the ribs of the motors and the fans used for cooling causing dirt to gather in areas which are almost impossible to reach or where the cleaning solutions cannot drain off causing so called “dirt traps”.
The Bauer HygienicDrive™ succeeds in meeting these requirements. The optimised geared motors of this series meet the highest requirements with regard to easy cleaning and hygienic design, a fact confirmed by the University of Munich, Research Centre Weihenstephan, with certification of the motors in compliance with EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group). Moreover, the HygienicDrive™ incorporates all the benefits of the earlier series CleanDrive™ and AsepticDrive™: A completely smooth, easy-clean surface which allows cleaning solutions to drain off completely and without cooling ribs on which dirt can easily settle. These drives are of fan-free design, preventing the aspiration of airborne germs and dirt particles which are then released into the surrounding air. In addition, the drives can be supplied with completely enclosed brake and/or encoder fittings. The standard paint finish on the drives is resistant to all commonly used cleaning solutions and disinfectants within the range of pH 2-12. The drives are also optionally available with antimicrobial protective coating Aseptic Antibac®
