Helping food retailers save energy and CO2

6 million tons of CO2 are saved every year through the energy-efficient control of refrigeration in 280,000 grocery stores globally. However, less than half of modern grocery stores are doing this today. A further 16 million tons of CO2 could be saved every year if all modern grocery stores globally optimized their refrigeration for energy efficiency.
Efficient control of refrigeration, lighting and air-conditioning in grocery stores ensures that energy consumption is automatically adapted to actual need.

Danfoss' control system ADAP KOOL® typically helps stores achieve a 20% saving on energy. For example, food retailers can manage, monitor and optimize all parts of their refrigeration system through integrated electronic controls that regulate the motors, the dosing of refrigerants, the defrosting of cabinets and many other processes.

The control of compressors and condensers is what generates the biggest energy savings in the ADAP-KOOL solution, with a payback time of 1-2 years.

Besides the energy savings, the ADAP-KOOL solution also enables food retailers to reduce maintenance costs and improve food quality.
