Primary treatment
The primary treatment system consists of bar screens, a sand & grit removal system and primary clarifiers. The wastewater from the sewer system gets collected in a lift station and the excess flows due to storms are diverted to the over-flow basin and will be treated periodically according to the capacity of the treatment plant. The wastewater from the lift station flows through the bar screens, where larger objects are screened out and transported out through a conveyor system.
The screened effluent flows into the sand & grit removal system, where sand and other heavy particles (grit) settle to the bottom of the tank. The contents are periodically cleaned out by a chain conveyor system. The effluent from here goes to a primary clarifier, which provides sufficient detention time for further reduction of solids. The sludge settled to the bottom of the clarifier is pumped out to maintain lower sludge blanket levels in the clarifier. The effluent from the primary clarifiers is allowed to flow into the aeration tank.
