US Navy shock test

US Navy shock test

In October 2008, one of our major clients was building a RO system that was going to be tested by the US Navy. As the system shall be used in military applications, there are severe demands to the robustness of the system, especially the individual components used in the system.
Our APP24 high-pressure pump was chosen due to compactness and robustness.

The test was performed at Hi-Test Laboratories in Virginia, USA.

The specific test set-up was to explode a 60 pound bomb at 20 feet away from the barge and 20 feet below the water surface. The barge contained the entire RO system and it should be able to withstand such a massive impact and should also be able to produce water again upon re-start of the system. The impact of the explosion to the barge and the RO system was approx 83G and should simulate a vessel being hit by a torpedo.

After having performed the test there was a visual inspection of the whole RO system, which subsequently was turned on again without any modifications or repair, and it started running without any problems.
