Pro-active in environmental matters

In compliance with the EU environmental directives, WEEE and RoHS, Danfoss emphasizes the Group's commitment to supplying reliable, high quality products that can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

Danfoss Industrial Controls announces that the company in the future will fully comply with the EU environmental directives: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).

Full compliance with WEEE directive

The WEEE directive includes demands regarding product design, labelling and material declaration.  Furthermore, Danfoss will make arrangements with the European authorities and waste treatment facilities for  the take-back of worn-out products for recycling on equipment, where the company is responsible for WEEE registration and payment.  In the future products from Danfoss Industrial controls that comply with the WEEE directive will be identified by a crossed out wheeled bin symbol.
Full compliance with RoHS directive
Although products from Danfoss Industrial Controls are not yet required to comply with the RoHS directive, Danfoss Industrial Controls' top management has decided to take a pro-active step and ensure full compliance with the requirements of category 9. This category is outside the present scope of the RoHS directive and is directed at: "Monitoring and control instruments (including monitoring and control instruments used in industrial installations e.g. in control panels)".

Challenges in the scope of RoHS include out phasing lead from solder materials and processes, as well as substituting design parts with zink plated and chomated surface treatment for corrosion resistance surface treatment.

"The selection of solder materials and processes is in process and qualification testing of component, materials and processes has begun," says Soren Eskildsen, Operations Vice President.

Danfoss' decision to comply with the directives emphasises the Group's commitment to Corporate Citizenship on how to handle social and environmental responsibilities.
"By implementing the WEEE and RoHS directives Danfoss Industrial Controls is confident that our products now and in the future will live up to the high quality and reliability expected by our customers," says Soren Eskildsen.
