Danfoss Announces Fifth EnVisioneeringSM Symposium

Tuesday, 29 May 2007
Experts from the building industry and U.S. Department of Energy will focus on financial paybacks of energy efficiency
Industry decision-makers and influencers will discuss the importance of financial paybacks of energy efficiency, including life-cycle costing, benchmarking and utility incentives at the fifth Danfoss EnVisioneeringSM Symposium, June 5, 2007 at the Westin Hotel, Long Beach, California, USA.

Keynote speakers and topics for the symposium, “Making Dollars and Sense of Energy Efficiency: A Focus on Conservation,” include:

  • Steve Selkowitz, program head, Building Technologies, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy laboratory, "Tools of Energy Savings."
  • Kent Peterson, ASHRAE president-elect, "Tools of Energy Savings."
  • Bruce Manning, director, Facilities & Operations, Operating Engineers Trust Fund, “How Fast are the Financial Paybacks?”
  • Mark Bernstein, visiting professor, Department of Political Science, University of Southern California, “Views of Conservation Challenge: How Deep is the Conservation Reservoir.”

The symposium will be hosted by John Galyen, president, Danfoss Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning North America, a world leader in research, development and production of mechanical and electronic components for applications in refrigeration and air conditioning, heating and motion control. The event will be co-organized by Global Strategy Initiative, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm, and Godfrey, an integrated marketing communications agency in Lancaster, Pa.

The symposium will provide an opportunity for senior-level dialogue among industry participants on advanced global strategies, launching a new era in energy efficiency.  Topics will include:

  • The conservation reservoir: how much energy can be saved?
  • Costs of conservation failure in the coming decade, and who pays?
  • How fast are the financial paybacks compared to other high return investments?
  • What will make the marketplace responsive to new energy and technology realities?
  • What alternative financial models should be explored?

In addition to Selkowitz, Manning and Bernstein, the symposium will feature experts from a wide spectrum of energy-efficient industries, including Galyen, Robert Cavey, president of Global Strategy Initiative, and John Suzukida, president of Lanex Consulting.

The symposium will emphasize quality dialogue with knowledgeable peers who can help map the future of a global energy efficiency policy.

Series Provides Access to Advanced Ideas, Information

The June 5 symposium will be the fifth in a series of conferences that make up the EnVisioneeringSM Symposium series.  The inaugural conference, held at the Kansas City Public Library (USA), focused on how energy challenges of the 21st century are transforming business strategy and the conditions of American international policy.  The second symposium, at the Chicago O’Hare Hilton (USA), addressed the role of states in developing effective energy policy. The third symposium, held at the Sofitel in Washington, D.C. (USA), focused on America’s global energy technology strategy. The fourth symposium, at the Hotel Washington in Washington, D.C. (USA) focused on building global energy-efficient solutions.

The sixth symposium will be held on October 23, in Washington, D.C., USA, on the topic, “Education and Awareness: Overcoming Communications Barriers with Regard to Energy Efficiency.”
