Heavy Machinery Giants Celebrate 10 Years With Danfoss

09 February 2010
A ten-year collaboration is well worth celebrating, and that’s just what Danfoss did when two leading German sugar beet harvester manufacturers, ROPA Fahrzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH and Holmer Maschinenbau GmbH, reached ten years as Danfoss customers. Thomas Dechert, Key Account Manager at the Danfoss Esslingen office, presented trophies to the companies’ design managers as a token of thanks. But what’s behind this successful partnership that’s still going strong after ten years?

Measuring hydraulic pressure with pinpoint accuracy

Thomas Dechert first met with ROPA and Holmer in November 1999. Following a month of extensive testing, both companies placed orders for the MBS 3250 pressure sensor. The MBS 8250, a smaller and more compact pressure sensor with digital temperature calibration for accurate measurement of the hydraulic fluid pressure, came to market in 2007 and both companies were quick to adopt the new technology. During these 10 years ROPA purchased more than 12,000 pcs of Danfoss pressure sensors, Holmer even topped 16,000 pcs.!

ROPA manufactures 30-ton, triple-axle beet harvesters. Powered by Daimler V8 engines with more than 600 HP, these enormous machines can hold up to 40 m³, or 29 metric tonnes of sugar beets. Thirteen MBS 8250 pressure sensors are used in each vehicle to monitor the propulsion drive, the utility hydraulic system, and the clutch and brake pressure, helping the harvesting machinery to run efficiently and, most importantly, consume less fuel.

Holmer manufactures compact twin-axle beet harvesters and loaders with a hopper capacity of 28 m³, which are ideal for smaller holdings. Holmer’s machines are also fully automated, with twelve pressure sensors helping control the hydraulic pumps and various hydraulic functions that keep each machine working smoothly.

Going the extra mile for our customers

But it’s not just Danfoss’ accurate, durable products that have gone into making these two partnerships so successful. From the start, Thomas worked closely with ROPA and Holmer, helping them select the sensors best suited to their equipment’s respective pressure ranges and electrical connectors, and suggesting ideal mounting positions. Over the years, Thomas has kept ROPA and Holmer up-to-date with the latest developments from the Danfoss sensor department, making sure both companies offer their customers the most efficient and reliable machinery possible.
