win for Danfoss
A panel of ASHRAE members has named the Danfoss Performer® VSD cooling package Product of the Year at the 2010 AHR Exposition, Jan. 25-27 in Orlando, Fla. This is the second consecutive year a Danfoss product has been selected for the prestigious award that recognizes the company and product that have introduced the greatest innovation in the HVAC/R industry during the past year.

Earlier, the Performer® VSD was honored with the Exposition’s coveted Innovation Award in the Green Building category, marking the eighth consecutive Innovation Award presented to Danfoss in as many years, a record unmatched by any other company in the industry.

John Galyen, president, Danfoss Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, North America, accepted the award in Orlando. “We are thrilled to be the recipient of back-to-back Product of the Year awards and just as proud of the unique track record we have established in the Innovation Awards competition,” he said. “These accomplishments set both our company and our products apart. The achievements also underscore our commitment to Danfoss EnVisioneeringSM principles and the search for energy efficient, environmentally advanced products and solutions that help reduce emissions and ensure sustainable business growth.”

Danfoss has overcome the technological barriers to variable speed residential air conditioning. The solution packages a scroll compressor and variable speed drive with a purpose-made controller, integrated solely for the purpose of cost-efficient application for greener homes.
“Performer VSD is an important milestone in the quest for SEER 18 and above for all cooling and heating applications,” said Dr. Mogens H. Rasmussen, a senior Danfoss engineer and systems integration marketing manager for the award-winning product. “It is particularly gratifying to have received the award for green buildings this year, because high energy efficiency was one of the priority design goals for Performer VSD.”

By constantly matching the capacity required to maintain the homeowner’s set point – without cycling on and off, comfort and efficiency are significantly increased, and, while the temperature set point is maintained, dehumidification is also accomplished. Additionally, the Performer VSD, featuring a new compressor concept designed for capacities from 2 to 5 TR, is up to 50 times quieter than traditional units.

“EnVisioneering has been a Danfoss vision since its founding in 1933,” added Galyen. “Danfoss has always been an industry leader in the kind of advanced research and engineering awareness that led to the development of the Performer VSD system. For more than 25 years, we have been enlisting American industries to join us in the EnVisioneering culture, and we host our EnVisioneering Symposia several times each year, with industry and government leaders participating.”

Galyen concluded, affirming, “Danfoss intends to lead the way toward higher and higher energy efficiencies that will reduce costs and continue to offer further improvements in environmental protection.”
