Getting tough with Danfoss temperature sensors

Rigorous testing with unique, tailor-made measuring equipment has improved the key performance criteria of Danfoss’ EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) temperature sensors. Now Danfoss temperature sensors are even more reliable under extreme pressure changes, fluctuations in temperature and heavy vibrations than ever before.

Tough, tough sensors for tough, tough engines

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) temperature sensors have to be tough. They need to cope with aggressive atmospheres, extreme temperature fluctuations, and heavy vibrations. And as key components in engines and machinery that also have to perform in harsh conditions, Danfoss temperature sensors have to be reliable and safe. They have to be components you can trust.

Because of rising environmental awareness, regulations for engine emissions, on a local and global level, have been tightened. And they promise to get tighter still in 2010. This puts even more demands on engine performance – and the temperature sensors that monitor them.

Temperature sensors play a key role in the modern, environmentally friendly engine. By re-circulating exhaust fumes into the intake stream, combustion takes place at lower temperatures and less NOx is generated. Careful control of the exhaust gas and air intake temperatures is crucial. And that’s where the reliability and proven track record of Danfoss temperature sensors comes into play.


Fast response time under pressure

The most effective temperature sensors have the fastest response times. Danfoss’ latest generation temperature sensors are 83 percent faster than standard sensors, and 20 percent faster than the nearest competitors’ sensors. Danfoss has added heat traps and a low-heat conductive material to improve the accuracy of the sensor’s readings, even in the harshest environments. So the latest Danfoss design fulfils the key performance criteria for temperature sensors:

  • Fast response time
  • Accurate
  • Reliable under all conditions


Tailor-made to measure

Measuring performance of the new sensors under development, especially getting hold of accurate data about response time, was a challenge in its own right. Danfoss ended up designing its own measuring equipment. Fully computer-controlled, the system removes any chance of the operator tainting the results, and organises the data into an easy-to-manage form. The designers at Danfoss were really able to put the new sensors through their paces and accurately measure their performance every step of the way.
