Danfoss’ John Masters to Participate in Panel Discussion during 2011 Energy Policy and Technology Outlook Conference

20 January 2011
John Masters, vice president of sales – water, at Danfoss, a leading manufacturer of electronic and mechanical components and control systems for refrigeration and air-conditioning, heating and motion controls, will participate in a panel discussion during the 2011 Energy Policy and Technology Outlook Conference, Jan. 31-Feb. 3 at the Fairmount Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Masters will join Robert Bruce Lung, senior program manager, Industrial Team, Alliance to Save Energy (ASE), and Jonathan Gledhill, president, Policy Navigation Group, in a discussion Feb. 3 titled “The Watergy Approach: Smart Strategies for Improving Energy Efficiency for Water Utilities and Municipalities.”

Watergy is an ASE program that addresses the often substantial amounts of energy used in supplying water and seeks to improve the energy efficiency of water treatment and delivery systems. Watergy projects typically optimize municipal or regional water supply and wastewater treatment systems using a suite of technical and managerial improvements.

Since the program’s launch, Watergy-based projects in more than 100 cities in 16 countries have resulted in total energy savings of about 21 million kWh and monetary savings in water and energy of $5.3 million. In addition to these significant savings, Watergy projects have also improved water service and reliability while freeing up revenue that utilities can then devote to upgrading their systems and expanding their service to new customers.

According to Lung, “The reason we thought of Danfoss for this panel is that we were looking for a technology manufacturer that also possesses a good energy management approach.”

Masters will share the ways in which Danfoss has helped water/wastewater treatment plants implement good energy efficiency projects in the United States and in the process, helped state energy officials recognize the value of energy efficiency in this sector.

Hosted by the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) and the Association of State Energy Research and Technology Transfer Institutions (ASERTTI), the 2011 Energy Policy and Technology Outlook Conference will serve as an essential opportunity for state energy office directors, staff and interested stakeholders to hear the latest on economic development, technology transfer, innovative financing and clean energy technologies.
