Danfoss to sponsor briefing on transformation of NYC residential buildings into models of energy efficiency

12 July 2011
Sept. 15 event to be co-sponsored by the Alliance to Save Energy; will explore the strategies and technologies that will meet energy challenges of existing buildings
Danfoss, a leading manufacturer of high-efficiency electronic and mechanical components and controls for air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration and motion systems, will sponsor a briefing in New York City, Sept. 15, titled “Energy Efficiency: The Path to NYC’s Residential Transformation.”

Co-sponsored by the Alliance to Save Energy, the event will explore the strategies and technologies capable of transforming energy consumption in the city’s multi-unit residential buildings. Speakers include:
  • Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY), U.S. House of Representatives
  • Francis Murray, president and CEO, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)
  • Kateri Callahan, president, Alliance to Save Energy
  • Tom Sahagian, energy division manager, Power Concept, L.L.C.
“Energy efficiency plays an increasingly important role in the economies of our cities,” said Lyle Moroz, vice president, Danfoss Heating Solutions. “As part of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s comprehensive PlaNYC initiative to improve the city environment, city leaders are giving special attention to the challenge of transforming energy use in existing residential buildings. Their insights and experience can provide valuable feedback for anyone facing similar challenges in the urban environment, especially with respect to the mid- and large-sized multi-unit buildings that are such a critical link in the urban housing delivery chain.”

This event will explore the goals and challenges facing New York City and share information regarding actual energy savings results from the recent heating technology installation in two NYC co-ops. Discussions will address the strategies for enhanced sustainability, building codes, energy-efficient technologies and investments that will integrate environmental and energy policy to transform New York City into a model of efficiency for existing residential buildings throughout the country.
