With a wide range of products and high-tech solutions within refrigeration and air conditioning, heating, water and motion controls, Danfoss delivers many indispensable functions in private homes and in the industrial sector.
Its products meet customers’ needs within areas as diverse as food preserving, productivity, energy-saving, environmental improvement and comfort. The resource-saving products are essential for the future of a world where there is an increasing focus on consideration for the environment and the scarce resources of nature.
Ever since the company’s foundation, regard for the individual, respect for nature and its values, and environmental and social responsibility have characterised the company and its activities. Today, with the Danfoss Group as a global industrial company, they continue to be the fundamental elements of its basic values – thanks to the Clausen family.
A Few Words About the Company's History
With his first product, the expansion valve for refrigeration systems, Mads Clausen founded the company "Dansk Køleautomatik & Apparat-fabrik" in 1933. The name Danfoss was embossed on all of the products and, in 1946, the company name 'Danfoss' was registered. During the first year of the business, 466 valves were sold. In the following year, sales quadrupled and the growth continued.
Mads Clausen realised at an early stage that the prerequisites of growth and stable employment were a wide product range and a large international market share. And in 1939, the first agent contract was signed with the company Itho, based in Holland. In 1942, valves were produced under a license in Sweden and agents were set up in Spain and Sweden. In 1943, the company celebrated its 10th anniversary with 179 employees and 37 different products. The first 100% owned sales company was set up in 1949 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and agents from 21 countries met at the "Danfoss Convention 1950" the year after.
In the years that followed, Danfoss expanded substantially. In 1953, employee no. 1,000 was engaged and, in the following year, the company took on employee no. 2,000. From the period following World War II and in the 1960s and 1970s, Danfoss set up production and sales companies around the world.
Danfoss remains a familyowned company, headed by Mads Clausen’s son, President and CEO Jørgen M. Clausen, with his brother, Peter J.M. Clausen, chairing the Bitten and Mads Clausen Foundation – the Group’s controlling body.
