Temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals must be refrigerated from production to injection or use. Developing this unbroken cold chain often causes logistical problems, particularly during transportation.
BD Direct Current supplied compressors are utilized in an innovative temperature controlled shipping container to safeguard medicine and life science products, control the cold chain and reduce handling.
The new PharmaPort™ 360 has been developed by Danfoss customer Cool Containers, located in Marietta, OH 45750, USA in 2011. Acknowledging the challenges of traditional cold chain storage and transportation, Cool Containers has created an innovative, unique and versatile cargo container capable of high-density storage with stringent temperature control for high-value pharmaceuticals. Their patent-pending, Pro-Tectic™ Temperature Storage Technology is powered by 2 cooling systems using a BD350GH compressor each.

  • Rather than moving between temperature controlled transportation units, the PharmaPort 360™ itself is moved, without the need of a refrigerated truck or temporary refrigerated holding locations. It is easy to handle at ports, terminals and warehouses.
  • The PharmaPort 360™ provides continuous constant temperature regulation without generating noise, heat or vapours while in transport mode. In recharge mode, it can be used indefinitely, as a high-performance laboratory refrigerator.

“This solution provides significant advantages over other cold-chain container options. We’ve eliminated the requirement for dry ice, and provide better temperature control, uniformity and hold time in transit. These are benefits our customers have told us they require.” adds Michael Rosenblum, Director of Marketing and Business Development, Cool Containers LLC.

In addition to the FAA approval, Cool Containers and their PharmaPort 360™ have also gained numerous awards, including an Advanced Energy award.
