New, more robust RTD temperature sensor
18 November 2009
To prolong the life of marine diesel and gas engines, it’s important to monitor and control exhaust gas temperatures – and this requires an accurate temperature sensor. Based on two types of sensor technology, temperature sensors either use a Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) with PT100 thin film technology, or thermocouples.
Both technologies have their pros and cons and in Asia, RTDs are the sensor of choice, while in Europe thermocouples are popular. But this practice is about to change, thanks to a new sensor from Danfoss that combines the best from both technologies.
