Robust sensors keep locomotives on track

Industrial Engines & Locomotives

Industrial engines are found on trucks, mobile hydraulic equipment, generator sets, locomotives, and small power stations.

The industrial engine industry is known for its harsh environments and high performance expectations.  Danfoss pressure, temperature and air controls are built with the reliability and toughness that engines require.

From measuring exhaust gas and oil temperature to controlling the air entering a turbocharger, Danfoss sensors and valves are built with industrial engines and locomotives in mind.

Pressure and Temperature Control in Industrial Engines

Emissions regulations dictate a need to control the combustion inside the engine accurately.  On modern engines this is obtained by placing different sensors on the engine that give input to the engine control system.

Among the possible measuring points for sensors are:

• Common rail pressure
• Oil pressure
• Exhaust gas pressure
• Manifold air pressure (MAP)
• Differential pressure on filters
• Exhaust gas temperature
• Cooling water temperature
• Oil temperature

On top of this there are in some cases needs for alarm switches:

• Cooling water temperature/pressure
• Lubrication oil temperature/pressure
• Air temperature

Trains

Keeping Locomotives on Track

Every day thousands of trains carry goods and people millions of miles around the world so a the breakdown on a locomotive engine can be costly.

Danfoss' sensors can be found on locomotives, controlling oil pressure and cooling water pressure.

Solenoid Valve Applications

Reducing the time needed for bringing an engine from idle to running speed is crucial in running many industrial engines.

Danfoss' solenoid valves help speed up turbo- chargers faster than usual.

The EV224B valve is used to run the compressed air supply line to accelerate the turbocharger by letting the high pressure air directly into the turbocharger.  The turbocharger now speeds up, letting air faster into the engine cylinders, causing the engine to speed up faster than normal.
Industrial Pressure Transmitters

Heavy Duty Pressure Transmitters

With Danfoss´ MBS series of pressure transmitters for heavy-duty applications you are guaranteed safe, reliable performances.

Used in applications from Marine to Hydraulic, Danfoss pressure transmitters have all the approvals you need to meet the most stringent specifications.
