Reduce Everything but Cooling Capacity with Hydrocarbon Compressor Ranges!

11 July 2011
Trendsetter in environmental friendly solutions, Danfoss offers from this year an extended compressors range running with Hydrocarbon refrigerants (R290 and R600a).

98% Reduction in Global Warming Potential GWP
R290 and R600a refrigerants have a very low GWP. They are thus a green solution, immediate available alternative for OEMs and end user in the cold chain, especially in LBP/MBP applications for R134a and R404A.

The Right Choice for Compact, Quiet and Green Solution

For more than 10 years, Danfoss has a wide range of compressors and condensing units running with R290 in 220_240V – models from TL3CN to SC21CNX.2 and a large range of compressors for R600a, more dedicated to household refrigeration and LBP applications.
The R290 compressor operating envelope is from -45°C up to +5°C. This range perfectly fits into market segments applications such as bottle coolers, ice cube makers, display freezers, commercial refrigerators and freezers, storage rooms, shelf ice machines…
In 2011, the R290 compressor range extends with new T,N and SC models available for 115V. It will be enriched by the end of the year with new compressors for MBP in 220_240V.

Main Features and Benefits for OEMs and End Users
Thanks to Secop (formerly Danfoss Household Compressor) design, this new compressors offer a high appliance and system robustness at tough operating conditions (with oil and surface cooling and integrated winding protection). The wide voltage range offers insensitive to unstable electric power products. Cooling capacities are also improved compared to previous generations running with R134a and R404A.
At least, for end users, energy consumption, running costs and noise level will be reduced compared to a system running with traditional refrigerants.
Strong demand for R290 emerged in ice cream, display freezers applications about 10 years ago and in food retail since 5 years. This trend is now spreading into new application areas, also in MBP. « We have a continuous demand increase by major OEM in the field over Europe and the trend is accelerating” confirm Ian Jones, Sales Director for Light Commercial and Mobile Applications.

BD Direct Current Compressor range also includes R290 and R600a models for sun power supplied applications.

Secop compressors for Danfoss have VDE approval for 220_240V models and UL approval for recent 115V models.

Performances Comparison Between R134a, R290 and R404A Compressors
Compared to an equivalent compressor for R404A, the R290 model will have a significantly better efficiency in LBP with the same displacement and with a bigger displacement for same cooling capacity in MBP.
For OEMs and end users, this will allow more compact installation, reduced running cost and energy saving.

Compared to an equivalent compressor for R134a, the R290 models will save in displacement, energy consumption and required space.
