Brown water boats are used in calm, shallow waters

Danfoss makes waves in brown water boats

A high demand for “brown water boats” caught the attention of Danfoss team at the International Workboat Show in New Orleans, USA.

These vessels are designed for relatively calm, shallow waters and are not suited for the open seas. Instead they are used throughout the rivers and extensive costal regions of the United States, serving barge traffic and even oil platforms.

In contrast to many other trade fairs that focus on a central theme, this show features a wide variety companies and innovative products. Danfoss took the opportunity at the Workboat Show to connect with the companies that sell to the suppliers of brown water boats. These potential customers produce engines, gearboxes, power generation equipment and bow thrusters – and these OEMs were all keen to learn about the possibilities that Danfoss’ marine approved products can offer.

Of special interest was the manifold concept in our light-weight MBV 5000, which is designed to save space and reduce costs while meeting the increasingly strict demands on marine equipment. And suppliers were also keen to hear more about our MBV 2000 isolation valve, which can be coupled with our new MBS 3300 transmitter.

The MBV 2000 offers a fast and efficient method of connection and removal – perfect for boats that need an easy way to change transmitters without draining the system first. All of these valves meet and exceed industry demands for fast installation, simple isolation and easy test pressure connection. And many of the brown water boat suppliers also saw big opportunities with our other pressure and temperature switches.

For Danfoss, this market holds real potential. Danfoss’ current marine-approved components can easily be applied to brown water boats – and the innovative technology will bring efficiency and savings to customers and their existing boats.
