Making life safer on the slopes
Engineers from the company phoned their nearest Danfoss representative to discuss the application. The valve would be part of a de-icing system in the cab of a new steep terrain snow groomer. The system is simple: the valve is connected to the cooling system of the snow groomer’s diesel engine. When activated, the valve opens sending heated engine coolant through a flexible hose attached to narrow copper tubing on the windshield wiper blades. The copper tubing encircles the frame of the blade and together with copper veins that support the wiper, heats the wiper blade. The heated wiper blade is a must for clearing the cab’s windshield fast and effectively to maintain excellent visibility – and keep operators safe.
Danfoss staff worked together with the engineers to come up with the ideal valve configuration. The EV210B valve was chosen for its robust design and high performance in extreme working conditions. Pairing the valve with a 24 volt valve coil that draws power from the snow groomer’s electrical system completed the selection process.
And it’s been a successful collaboration. The customer associated the Danfoss brand with quality – and we delivered. The engineers were impressed by the EV210B’s unique design – a square armature in round armature tube, or “square peg in a round hole” – which improves performance because it’s less susceptible to contamination. And Danfoss staff is always close at hand to provide face-to-face customer service for clients, regardless of location.
