Intelligent control makes hydraulics more environmentally friendly
Many governments are increasing environmental legislation – so manufacturers are looking to companies like Danfoss to help them reduce energy use and emissions through intelligent hydraulics control.
So how can Danfoss’ products help? One example is energy reuse. Danfoss sensors control the charging and discharging process in hydraulic accumulators. The accumulator stores braking energy as the machine stops, and releases it when the machine moves again. The result is almost complete recovery of kinetic energy, which cuts fuel consumption by up to 20 percent.
To put this reduction into perspective, the total energy costs of the agriculture, mining and construction industry are around $28 billion each year. Improving energy efficiency by just 10 percent will result in savings of about $3 billion a year – and the equivalent reduction in emissions.
Another benefit of energy reuse is longer product lifetimes. Reusing braking energy means less wear on the braking system and reduced maintenance costs. Combine this with Danfoss’ proven reliability and manufacturers get a significantly lower total cost of ownership.
