Energy savings is a hot topic in USA. Reporters have visited owners of swimming pools to hear about major energy savings by applying speed controlled pumps. The company Pentair has profited by precious minutes on morning TV explaining how their IntelliFlo pump – with VLT® speed control – saves 70-90 % of the energy bill.
And it can prove urgent. Several states in the USA apply rigid energy regulations. In Nevada this means that all dug-in swimming pools must have energy saving controls – like the VLT® control – and in California it has been mandatory since January 2007 to apply speed regulation in all new pool pumps installed.
Only air-conditioning consumes more energy than swimming pools in USA.
The pumps sold for this purpose in USA are developed by Danfoss Low Power Drives, a business unit dedicated to customer adapted solutions. “The market for customer adapted solutions within pumping and ventilation is growing” says Per Graven Nielsen, director for Danfoss Low Power Drives. “And we expect it to grow, because legislation about power saving will emerge in many countries.”
“I estimate the share of motors with variable speed control to be 10 – 15 % globally”, says Per Graven Nielsen. Since 2004, Danfoss Low Power Drives has doubled its sales each year.
