VLT® drives cool olympic TV-station

Almost one hundred VLT® HVAC drives from 1.1 kW to 250 kW have been installed in the air conditioning system at the new premises of China Central Television station. It controls the air conditioning system in CCTV.

The chief designer of the new premises program is Rem Koolhaas of the well known Holland Metropolis Architecture Office.

The new premises of CCTV were awarded the title of Ten Miracle of China’s New architectures.

The new premise of CCTV comprises the main building, television and culture centre and annexed facilities with the total floor area of 550,000 square meters. The main building  is composed of two tower buildings respectively with 52 storeys, 234 meters high and  44 storeys, 194 meters high, which are connected by a cantilever steel structure, with the total floor area above 47,000 square meters, for which 140,000 tons steel have been used together. The cantilever steel structure weights 18,000 tons and heights 56 meters, suspending in the sky of 162.2 meters high, just like a real “air castle”. The building is divided into five areas according to functionalities of different business: Administration Area, General business Area, TV News Production and broadcasting Area, Transmission Area and Program Production Area. There are also additional buildings for service and basic facilities with the total floor area of 380,000 square meters. The television and culture centre includes a hotel, television theatre, a recording studio and other different facilities with the total floor area of 60,000 square meters. Other annexe includes parking facility and guard building with the total floor area of 110,000 square meters. In consideration of energy saving and comfort control, more frequency converters are designed in the main building, television and culture centre and annexed power centre of CCTV.
