VLT controls gravure printer in Korea

29 May 2008
Gravure printers are enormous, meters long machines with a shamble of cylinders, fittings, hoses, and electronics – almost like small spaceships. Danfoss Drives supplies all the drives for the gravure printers produced by Korean-based company, Kyungwoo.
The order was signed in January and Kyungwoo cites product quality, reliability, and overall service level as the main reasons why Danfoss was chosen for the project.
“The quality of the products is very good but service is just as important for us, so Danfoss’ worldwide service network was a key factor, too,” says Mr Kwang-Soo Kim, President of Kyungwoo.
Gravure printers are used to print on packaging film and Kyungwoo’s control system manages the speed with which the film passes through each printer’s cylinders.
Danfoss’ VLT® Automation Drive series will make up an important part of the control system’s brain and VLT® 2800s will also be used in the system.
The total order includes drives for a laminating machine control system in addition to the gravure printing machine control system – 43 drives in total.
The first drives were delivered in March and commissioning will start this month.

Kyungwoo is located a few kilometres south-west of Seoul. The company has 19 employees.
