High Power VLT® drives ensure fruit quality in Chile

21 January 2009
Carozzi, one of Chile’s most important food production companies, has preferred to use Danfoss products for more than a decade. Today, Danfoss Drives and soft starters are used in 90% of the client’s installations.

Carozzi has one of the most modern food production plants in the world. It is located in Teno, 170 kilometers south of Santiago – the Agroindustrial Agrozzi Division. The plant incorporates the highest level of instrumentation possible to ensure a final product that meets high international standards. More than 85% of the products are exported to countries like Mexico, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Colombia, Russia, Japan, and the U.S., among others. The company contracts with Chilean farmers and covers 63,000 hectares annually, for crops including wheat, rice, oats, tomatoes and fruits.

Danfoss Drives total reliability
Recently, Danfoss and a technical team from Agrozzi, installed the second Danfoss High Power Drive, of 250 kW. The first Big Drive went into operation in February of 2008. The Drives are part of a major modernization project, which includes new boilers, of 70 tons/per hour and 10 Bar of pressure. The Drives control the velocity of the major ventilator motors, vital to the boilers’ operation.
I joined the company in December of 1989, and back then the plants were small. We had low power installation. Now we have grown a lot, and have 12,000 kVA," says Agrozzi Supervisor of Electric Department, Rolando Ríos. Agrozzi decided to install the two new "Nebraska" boilers, which were imported from the U.S. These boilers have John Zink burners and a four-element control system, for a high level of security and rapid vapor generation.
