Danfoss increases its focus on floor heating systems

09 July 2007
Danfoss has signed an agreement to acquire 100 per cent of the share capital of the German company, Jupiter Heizsysteme GmbH, which markets complete systems for hydronic floor heating. Jupiter employs 50 people, mainly in Germany.
“This is a significant move that strengthens our existing hydronic floor heating business, as we are acquiring some of the most interesting products in this field. Increasingly, our customers are demanding total indoor climate solutions and, with this agreement, we will be able to gain valuable experience of selling complete hydronic floor heating systems - and in the important German market,” says Niels B. Christiansen, Vice CEO of Danfoss A/S.

A complete floor heating system from Jupiter includes pipes, floor heating elements, insulation, a finished distributor unit, as well as electronic system controls. Danfoss already produces and supplies a broad series of floor heating components, including an advanced wireless control system, called CF2.

Comfort and energy savings
Jupiter is Europe’s leading supplier of “dry” floor heating systems, which are mounted on top of concrete floors, providing heat distribution which reacts faster, thus saving more energy. In addition, Jupiter has developed advanced competences within traditional floor heating systems which are incorporated into concrete floors in residential and commercial buildings. The “dry” systems in particular are showing great progress in a market where floor heating is becoming increasingly popular for residential heating.

"For years, Danfoss has had strong competences within heat control and, during recent years, we have further strengthened our competences within heat production through our heat pump activities. This agreement will also strengthen our distribution competences and move us one step closer to being able to deliver total modern solutions for the production, distribution and regulation of heat," say President of Danfoss Heating Division, Nis Storgaard.

Danfoss’ Heating Division is already a market leader within heat pumps, radiator thermostats, electrical floor heating solutions, distribution solutions for district heating and components for oil burners.

"Worldwide, the Danfoss name is associated with heating technology of a high quality. The agreement with Danfoss is therefore the best possible stepping stone for Jupiter to advance from a local level to an international platform,” says Jupiter’s owner Achim Nierbeck, who will continue as leader of the Jupiter business.
