Powering ‘clean air’ trucks
Clean-air trucks are powered by modified diesel engines that start on diesel and can be switched over to LNG. The engines are supplied by a Vancouver-based company – and it recommended Danfoss pressure transmitters to the Oregon manufacturer of the LNG pump unit.
The LNG pump unit is hydraulic, so maintaining the right level of hydraulic oil pressure is a must. To do this, Danfoss’ MBS 2150 pressure transmitters monitor the oil pressure to the pump, ensuring that the pump and the entire fuel supply system performs well at all times.
Offering a clean-burning alternative to standard diesel engines, the clean-air trucks are proving popular with captive fleet operators, such as container haulers at ports. The world is looking increasingly for environmentally friendly solutions – and emission regulations are getting tighter. At the same time, the number of LNG refuelling locations around the US are increasing – and soon more long-haul truck companies and off-road equipment manufacturers will be able to take advantage of the low-emission engines.
But it’s not just Danfoss pressure transmitters that keep LNG engines running smoothly. Danfoss temperature sensors, contactors and circuit breakers can also be used in LPG and CNG dispensers to keep them functioning even in the harshest of conditions.
